So when Watkins finally took the field today for the first time since ending his hold out two days ago, it was no surprise to see him lined up with the first team offense.
Watkins, wearing #63, looked as good as a rookie participating in his first practice could look this morning. He was in their on all packages, as the team practiced third and short situations, goal line plays, and ran the regular offense. Watkins seems to be pulling a lot, as the Eagle seem intent on using his speed (for an offensive lineman) to get him to the other side of the field to block.
The former Baylor offensive lineman is not the biggest player on the offensive line, but looked the part. His arrival put most of the offensive line together for the first time, as now only right guard Winston Justice is missing.
How much action Watkins will see in the Eagles first preseason game is unknown. It is hard to imagine the team throwing him out their with only a little more then a week of practice, but if he is going to start, it will be good for him to get out their and run with the first team.
Watkins, a former fire fighter, also got to use some of his EMS skills this morning. When Mike Patterson went down, Watkins rushed over to help the trainers in any way he could.
While he did not end up doing much to help the trainers ,it was an interesting end to the first practice for Watkins.
