Kolb to Arizona for Rodgers-Cromartie?

With every positive development in the NFL Lockout, Kevin Kolb moves closer to finding out where he will play next season.

If Anthony Gargano of 610WIP is correct, then Kolb does not have to wait- it is a done deal that he will be heading to Arizona.

Could Kolb be heading to Arizona?

Speaking with Glen Macnow today on their midday sports show, Gargano says that he believes the agreement to send Kolb to Arizona is as close to a done deal as it can be. Gargano believes there is no doubt that Kolb is heading to Arizona, and that Dominque Rodgers-Cromartie is the player the Eagles will get in return.

Though he is not “on the beat” for the Eagles, Gargano is still very tapped into the team, and has a good relationship with Kolb. While he did not say anything about hearing something from Kolb, it could be that Kolb has told him thats where he is headed. While that is speculation, it might not be far from the truth.

Arizona headcoach Ken Wisenhunt has said that he would prefer to build around a quarterback who could be the future instead of a veteran, one or two year kind of situation. This fits the description perfectly for Kolb, who should be the future of the franchise wherever he does end up.

For the Eagles, landing Rodgers-Cromartie would be a huge upgrade from Dmitri Patterson. Rodgers-Cromartie has the height that many of the Eagles in the secondary lack, standing 6-2. He also has enough speed to hang with the quicker receivers in the league.

Rodgers-Cromartie would bring one thing to the Eagles secondary- size

In his three year career, Rodgers-Cromartie has 13 interceptions, including 6 two years ago. While he interception total dropped to 3 last season, a big part of that was the opposing team not throwing the ball in his direction. Rodgers-Cromartie also has shown he is durable, missing only 5 games in his 3 year career.

Landing Rodgers-Cromartie would also fill a need the team would not have to address in free agency, allowing them more money for players such as Plaxico Burress or Albert Hanyesworth.

Whether or not trading Kolb is the right call, if Gargano is right about what he thinks the deal could be, it is good to know that a solid offer is available if the Eagles want it.

  1. The Arizona Cardinals are not trading DRC. Sorry they just aren’t. Drafting Patrick Peterson @ #5 doesn’t mean they are unleashing their #1 CB. Patrick Peterson hasn’t even put on pads at the professional level, and from what I’m hearing hasn’t really worked out with the team during the lockout. This makes no sense. The Arizona Cardinals will give The Eagles CB Greg Toler, and a 2nd round draft pick in 2012 as a compromise though.
